Basic Biomedical Sciences 10% This topic evaluates knowledge in physiology, biochemistry, microbiology related to human disease, and immunology. These fundamental sciences provide the essential background needed to understand the human body and its response to diseases and medications.
Pharmaceutical Sciences 33% This area covers medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and toxicology, and pharmacognosy and dietary supplements. It also includes pharmaceutics/biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics and genetics, and sterile and nonsterile compounding. This broad category assesses the candidate’s understanding of drug development, delivery, and the biological effects of medications.
Social/Behavioral/Administrative Sciences 22% This topic examines health care delivery systems and public health, population-based care and pharmacoepidemiology, and the economic and humanistic outcomes of health care delivery. It also covers pharmacy practice management, pharmacy law and regulatory affairs, and biostatistics and research design. This category focuses on the social and administrative aspects of pharmacy practice and public health.
Clinical Sciences 35% This topic area tests knowledge in evidence-based practice, clinical pathophysiology, clinical pharmacokinetics, and clinical pharmacogenomics. It also includes disease prevention and population health, as well as patient assessment. This topic emphasizes the application of clinical knowledge to patient care and the improvement of health outcomes.
